Thanks to Golf Magazine for inviting Attorney Daniel Chen, founder and director of Daniel Brothers Commercial Platform/Law Firm, for an interview. In the article, Attorney Chen shared his life philosophy gleaned from his years of experience with golf.
As a lawyer, business consultant, and investor, Attorney Chen frankly stated in the interview that despite the different fields, he always prioritizes “professionalism as the foundation and people as the core.” He pointed out that the “stability and precision” strategies learned in golf are equally applicable to business management and strategic planning: “The basic strategies in golf are divided into powerful shots and smart shots. A smart shot strategy is to consistently control each shot according to different course conditions. This same strategy is reflected in business management, where you make the most accurate and appropriate judgments based on various existing situations and then execute them steadily.”

Furthermore, Attorney Chen revealed that the golf course has become an important venue for him to expand his network and connect with industries. He believes that “character, patience, and flexibility on the golf course are often more genuine than at the negotiating table. When you encounter someone on the course who is willing to respect their opponent, respect the rules, and enjoy the process, the foundation for cooperation is more solid.” Through this concept, a virtuous cycle is achieved between the roles of lawyer, consultant, and investor: the lawyer’s professionalism provides a foundation of trust; the consultant’s business judgment provides investment opportunities; and investment and golf course experience, in turn, enrich his legal and business judgment.
Regarding future plans, Attorney Chen stated that in addition to continuing to strengthen Daniel Brothers Commercial & Law Firm’s role as a “legal + business dual-engine platform,” he also plans to combine the golf community, corporate events, and networking to create more spaces for “taste × exchange × value creation.”
Finally, summarizing Attorney Chen’s philosophy of life: “Every swing is a new beginning. On a golf course, once a shot is taken, there’s no going back. At that moment, you must face the result, adjust your mindset and state of mind for the next shot, and deal with it properly. The same applies to business management. You can’t rest on your laurels because of past successes, because market conditions, competitors’ strategies, and technological changes can all render your original advantages ineffective.” Attorney Chen mentioned that even if you swing on the same course for ten years, the ball will land differently each time; even if you’ve been deeply involved in the same industry for many years, you will always encounter new challenges. Therefore, in legal practice, corporate consulting, and investment decision-making, he always maintains an open mind, a continuous learning attitude, does his job diligently, and faces the results with equanimity. When facing casework or business negotiations, he not only uses his legal expertise but also brings the observation, judgment, balance, and composure he has cultivated on the golf course, enabling his business platform and firm to have both legal risk control and the ability to extend diverse business value.
